| From the Rowing Almanack and Oarsman's Companion, 1927, reporting on races during 1926 : |
| Tideway Head of the River Race - 12 Dec. Time races. |
| Rowed over the University
course on the Ebb - Mortlake to Putney. The entries originally allowed for 23 eights starting, but Thames RC I and Thames RC II ("A" crew) had to scratch, owing to absentees from the regular crews. London RC, therefore, started first instead of Thames RC, and did much the best performance. It was thought that any time about 21m would be good, but London did 20m 1s, finishing with a fine spurt and looking very fresh. The next fastest crew was Gresham RC I with 20m 52s. After Gresham, Auriol RC and Vesta RC were well up on time, and remarkably good time was done by some of the clinker-boat crews, Gresham scoring again with their second eight, whose 21m 41s put them into ninth place. It was very satisfactory to note that practically all the crews finished in good condition. |
