THE HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE 2010
Notes and Entry Regulations for Overseas
Clubs
1. 60 overseas (including
IARU) crews will be accepted in total. No composite crews (crews containing
members of more than one club) are allowed.
2. Overseas clubs will be
limited to two crews each.
For reasons of safety, it is strongly
recommended that any crew with average age 36 or more (i.e. FISA Veteran B or
older) enter the Vesta Veterans’ HOR instead and in
2010 - for reasons of capacity - any such entries to HORR may be refused
.
3. All those crews which finished in the top
280 in 2009 will be guaranteed a place for 2010, provided that they comply in
full with the entry regulations.
4.
Overseas entries are now closed.
5. All those crews not
having a place under 3. above will go into a draw for the remaining places up
to a total of 60. The draw will take place on Monday 1 February 2010,
and clubs will be informed of the result as soon as possible thereafter by
e-mail.
6. All entries from clubs
not affiliated to the Rowing Federations of Great Britain will be treated as
Elite.
7. For 2010, HORR is again
offering a special Lightweight category . Given the time of year, the weight
limit will not be as for FISA events, but all crew members must be under 73.5
kg. Weighing-in will be required between 1 and 2 hours before Race time.
Also being
offered is the Bernard Churcher (University) Prize , which is open to any
University crew whose members are all registered students on the day of the
Race .
8. INSURANCE - You are
required to confirm that your Club has public liability insurance for the
equivalent of at least GBP 1m.
9. SAFETY
a) All coxes must wear an
approved lifejacket or buoyancy aid . This must also be worn during training
outings .
b) It is compulsory that
at least one from cox , Stroke and 7 must have good enough English to
understand instructions given by Race Officials, and be able to communicate
these to the rest of the crew .
If it becomes clear
before the Race that this has not been arranged , the crew may not be permitted
to start and may receive a further penalty at the Committee's discretion .
THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED IN 2010
c) Boats in which the cox is lying down in the bow are not permitted in the HORR .
|
YOU
ARE VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO ENSURE THAT ALL COXES HAVE WATCHED
THE VIDEO “COXING A TIDEWAY HEAD”. EXTRA COPIES (VIDEO or DVD) ARE AVAILABLE VIA THE SECRETARY OR IT CAN BE VIEWED ON-LINE AT
THE WEHORR WEBSITE |
THE BRITISH ROWING
ON-LINE ENTRY SYSTEM (WHICH USED TO BE CALLED OARA) WILL AGAIN BE USED FOR 2010
10. ENTRY THROUGH
BRITISH ROWING ON-LINE ENTRY
If you were not registered
at the time of HORR 2009, you will need to contact Mrs. Irene Townsend at
British Rowing via e-mail (Irene.townsend@britishrowing.org),
with your club details and saying that you wish to enter the Head of the River
Race. You will then be set up on the British Rowing On-line system , and given
your log-in information . If you have already been registered , you may log-in
and make your entry at any time . The
British Rowing office is only able to help with the on-line system ; any
enquiries about the Race itself must be sent to the HORR Secretary.
A link to the login
address is available on the previous page.
PAYMENT
The easiest way to pay
entry fees is on-line , either at the time that you make your entry , or as
soon as possible afterwards .
If you cannot pay by this
method , please e-mail the Secretary as soon as you have made your entry to ask
what other methods are available .
IF THE FEE IS NOT
RECEIVED BY 1 FEBRUARY , YOUR ENTRY CANNOT BE ACCEPTED .
SAFETY
a) To help with safety , please enter
the classification for the approximate level of the crew , where:-
A = Expected finish position 1
to 75 ; Crew would expect to finish in top 6 in National Championships
B = Expected finish 76 to 175 ;
Good club crew - perhaps National Championships standard
C = Expected finish 176 to 275
; Average club crew - might win 3-4 events during a season
D = Expected finish below 276 ;
Perhaps Novice level
If
in doubt , select the less demanding level to give the crew a more interesting
Race and for the safety of other crews.
You may then also choose
"Lightweight" if applicable ..
b) Because the only
communication with you will be by e-mail , it is essential that a valid e-mail
address is supplied , plus at least one telephone number for emergencies.
You may well lose your
place in the Race if you cannot be contacted quickly .
c) British Rowing has now
put in place a rule that ALL boats must display a standard boat identification.
Further details can be obtained from British Rowing when you register for the
on-line facility, and it is compulsory for your boat to carry your club’s
letters and a number whenever it is on the Thames .
d) Before making your entry
, you must arrange to boat from a Tideway club , and identify the club on the
entry .
e) It
is essential that if you plan to hire or borrow a boat from a British club ,
this must be arranged before the entry is made . Entries made without
arrangements being made will be automatically rejected
f) Trailers carrying just
one boat will not be allowed onto the Putney Embankment , and must arrange to
boat at clubs elsewhere along the Tideway .
