THE HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE 2008
Notes and Entry Regulations for Overseas Clubs
This is the 2008 version left in place for information. The 2009 version will be posted here by 1 Noverber 2008.
1. 65 overseas (including Irish) crews will be accepted in total. No composite crews (crews containing members of more than one club) are allowed.
2. Overseas clubs will be limited to two crews each.
For reasons of safety, it is strongly recommended that any crew with average age 36 or more (i.e. FISA Veteran B or older) enter the Vesta Veterans HOR instead .
3. All those crews which were ready to race in 2007 will be guaranteed their place for 2008, provided that they comply in full with the entry regulations .
4. The race is now closed to overseas entries.
5. All those crews not having a place under 3. above will go into a draw for the remaining places up to a total of 65. The draw will take place on Monday 21 January 2008, and clubs will be informed of the result as soon as possible thereafter by e-mail.
6. All entries from clubs not affiliated to the Rowing Federations of Great Britain will be treated as Elite.
7. For 2008, HORR is again offering a special Lightweight category . Given the time of year, the weight limit will not be as for FISA events, but all crew members must be under 73.5 kg. Weighing-in will be required between 1 and 2 hours before Race time.
Also being offered is the Bernard Churcher (University) Prize , which is open to any University crew whose members are all registered students on the day of the Race .
8. INSURANCE - You are required to confirm that your Club has public liability insurance for the equivalent of at least GBP 1m.
9. SAFETY
a) All coxes must wear an approved lifejacket or buoyancy aid . This must also be worn during training outings .
b) It is compulsory that at least one from cox , Stroke and 7 must have good enough English to understand instructions given by Race Officials, and be able to communicate these to the rest of the crew .
If it becomes clear before the Race that this has not been arranged , the crew may not be permitted to start and may receive a further penalty at the Committee's discretion .
THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED IN 2008c) Boats in which the cox is lying down in the bow are not permitted in the HORR .
YOU ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO ENSURE THAT ALL COXES HAVE WATCHED THE VIDEO "COXING A TIDEWAY HEAD". EXTRA COPIES (VIDEO or DVD) ARE AVAILABLE VIA THE SECRETARY AN ONLINE VERSION IS AVAILABLE ON THE WOMEN'S HEAD WEBSITE ( www.wehorr.org ) |
10. ENTRY THROUGH OARA
If you did not register at the time of HORR 2007, you will need to contact Mrs. Irene Townsend at the ARA via e-mail (Irene.townsend@ara-rowing.org), with your club details and saying that you wish to enter the Head of the River Race. You will then be set up on the OARA system , and given your log-in information . If you are already registered , you may log-in and make your entry at any time .
If you have registered in the past, even if you have not raced, you must contact Mrs. Townsend as soon as possible to be given new instructions on how to log into the website.
PAYMENT
The easiest way to pay entry fees is on-line , either at the time that you make your entry , or as soon as possible afterwards .
If you cannot pay by this method , please e-mail the Secretary as soon as you have made your entry to ask what other methods are available .
IF THE FEE IS NOT RECEIVED BY 21 JANUARY, YOUR ENTRY CANNOT BE ACCEPTED .
SAFETY
a) To help with safety , please enter the classification for the approximate level of the crew , where:-
A = Very good club crew , perhaps Championship level
B = average-to-good club crew
C = average club crew
D = almost Novice/Beginner
and then also choose "Lightweight" if applicable ..
b) Because the only communication with you will be by e-mail , it is essential that a valid e-mail address is supplied , plus at least one telephone number for emergencies.
You may well lose your place in the Race if you cannot be contacted quickly .
c) The ARA has now put in place a rule that ALL boats must display a standard boat identification. Further details can be obtained from the ARA when you register for OARA, and it is compulsory for your boat to carry your clubs letters and a number whenever it is on the Thames .
d) Before making your entry , you must arrange to boat from a Tideway club , and identify the club on the entry . If this section is left blank , or if the Tideway club named has not given its permission , the entry will be rejected ; this rule will be strictly enforced in 2008.
e) Trailers carrying just one boat will not be allowed onto the Putney Embankment , and must arrange to boat at clubs elsewhere along the Tideway .
By submitting the entry , the person making it is confirming the following:
1. I certify that all competitors are experienced to a sufficient standard to compete in the Race .
2. I have read and accept the Regulations relating to the Draw (paragraphs 3 to 5 above), and to Safety .
3. I accept that there will be little or no refund in the event of weather-related cancellation
4. I confirm that all members of any crew entered for the Bernard Churcher (University) Prize are currently in statu pupillari at the university/college concerned
5. I certify that this Club and its members have arranged their own insurance cover, including public liability cover of at least £ 1m equivalent .
6. I certify that all the competitors named on the OARA entry - and any substitute who may be introduced - are members of this Club which is a member by affiliation of its National Federation
