HoRR 2018 – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW

THE FOLLOWING IS A PRÉCIS OF THE WAY THE HORR 2018 ENTRY AND START ORDER WILL WORK, AND IS BEING SENT OUT NOW TO HELP WITH YOUR PLANNING. FULLER DETAILS – INCLUDING RACE INSTRUCTIONS – WILL BE ON THE WEBSITE IN EARLY JANUARY

  1. Entries will open on BROE on 1 January, and close on 11 February (09.02.2018 extended). As usual, there will be no late entries allowed.
  1. All British Rowing & Welsh Rowing entries will be ranked and started according to their listed Ranking Points [= RPs] at time of close of entries as prescribed by British Rowing. All these, plus the Scottish Rowing entries, will be automatically classified into Academic or Club according to the listing in the British Rowing Almanack or its Scottish Rowing/Welsh Rowing equivalent.
  1. The top-ranked 120 British Rowing & Welsh Rowing crews, plus the top-ranked 30 Overseas and Scottish Rowing crews, will form 3 Championship Divisions. For 2018, the top 30 places overall will be filled by crews inheriting positions from the 2016 Finish order.
  1. The remaining crews will be divided into 4 further Divisions of 50 crews – Academic Intermediate & HORRNovice plus Club Intermediate & HORRNovice
  1. If, after close of entries, a crew makes substitutions that would otherwise carry it up or down into a different division, it will keep its allocated start number and position.
  1. To ensure a basic standard of competence:-
    i) All British Rowing & Welsh Rowing Club crews, and Academic-school crews, will be required to have a minimum of 20 RPs at Race Day.
ii) All Scottish Rowing rowers must have been registered with Scottish Rowing on or before 1 December 2017, or have at least 2 Scottish Rowing racing points.
iii) All British Rowing & Welsh Rowing Academic-university and Academic-college crews are required to have a minimum of 20 RPs at Race Day. HOWEVER: As some clubs in this group will compete only or mainly at non-British Rowing events, we will accept narrative evidence of an equivalent performance. It will be important that any clubs/crews seeking this submit their requests in good time.

For all the above groups:- A crew may be entered with fewer than the required number of points, in the expectation that it will earn enough extra between close of entries and Race day, but if it does not the entry will be scratched.

  1. There will be a Beginner competition category, with the criteria that i) for Academic-university and Academic-college crews, all the crew fall into the BUCS-Beginner category and ii) for Club crews and Academic-school crews no crew member has been rowing for more than 12 months as at Race date. These criteria apply to all British Rowing, Scottish Rowing and Welsh Rowing clubs.

In all cases, the crew cox will be required to have more than 12 months experience

  1. In accordance with BROE procedures, RPs awarded through BROE are solely dependent on a crew’s finishing position overall.
